Every morning in Nigeria, millions of children wake up not to the sound of a school bell, but to chores, street hustles, or silence. According to UNESCO, Nigeria has the highest number of out-of-school children in the world—over 10 million.
This is more than a statistic. It’s a generation of dreams deferred.

The Ripple Effect
When a child misses school, it’s not just their future at stake. Communities lose future teachers, doctors, innovators, and leaders. Economies lose productivity. And Africa loses the chance to harness the full potential of its youngest generation.
Why So Many Children Are Out of School
The reasons are many:
Families too poor to afford uniforms or books.
Schools too far or unsafe to reach.
Children discouraged by hunger, lack of support, or early responsibilities.
But one reason stands out most—we’ve normalized the idea that some children simply won’t make it.
Why It Matters Now
Africa has the world’s fastest-growing youth population. If millions are left without education, the cycle of poverty deepens. But if we can return children to classrooms and help them finish strong, we unlock the possibility of a continent led by empowered, educated young people.
What We’re Doing at BTEF
At Back to Education Foundation, we believe every child should sit in a classroom, love their education, and complete it with pride. Through school supply drives, mentorship, and scholarships, we’re working to change this story—one child at a time.
How You Can Help
Change begins with simple acts. Sponsor a child, donate supplies, or volunteer your skills. Because when one child returns to school, an entire community rises.
